Dear Washington Avenue Kindergarten Parents,

I hope all of you have taken advantage of these wonderful summer months. With the passage of each year, summer does seem to go by more quickly. I can’t believe it’s August already and school is just around the corner.  I am very excited for your children to meet new friends and learn as much as they can from their teachers.  The teachers have already started to prepare their classrooms and gather books and materials for the school year.

It’s the goal of the Kindergarten Center to set learning, social and behavioral expectations for all of our students so they may become life long learners. To that end, we are setting high standards for our kindergarteners, especially in the area of reading.  We are asking that all of our students learn and master as many sight words as possible to increase their reading potential. This can also be supported at home by reading at least 30 minutes a night with your children.

Kindergarteners learn how to socialize through playtime, hands on learning and interacting with adults. The environment at the Kindergarten Center is designed to benefit their social and emotional growth.  The children will be able to laugh, play, sing songs and interact with each other in an appropriate manner.  The teachers and staff will model and positively reinforce acceptable behaviors. Good manners and proper conduct is essential for building character.

We hope to have an amazing year at the Kindergarten Center. It is our sincere wish that our students develop into inquisitive young girls and boys.

Thank you,

John Singleton, Jr.
