Forest Road School
Principal’s Message
Welcome to the Forest Road School site. We are centrally located in the beautiful and community-minded Millbrook area of Valley Stream. We are a kindergarten through sixth grade school and are also currently home to the District’s self-contained special education programs. We offer a dedicated and knowledgeable staff whose priorities are to ensure the well-being and quality education of our children.
Forest Road has enjoyed being at the center of such a wonderful community since 1953. Our children walk to school and families have the opportunity for daily interaction with our teaching staff. Forest Road is proud of our many accomplishments, which include high proficiency rates on NYS assessments and interactive learning experiences for our children. We share a district focus on Balanced Literacy throughout our instruction and have worked to build leveled-classroom libraries. Our school has a solid Building Level Team devoted to continued academic and social growth and a PBIS Team whose primary focus is to foster and strengthen positive character traits. We also host a large variety of before and after-school clubs targeting academic development and interest-based activities. Our Green Team is a new club this year and is one that will work diligently to educate others about effective ways to “go green” and enhance our environment. During the school day our children and staff are supported by a fine group of specialists in the areas of Reading, Math, Speech and Language, Gifted Instruction, Special Education, Library. Our library and Computer Lab are available to the children on a weekly basis and staff in these areas work to continuously support curriculum learning with relevant literature choices and projects. We maintain an emphasis on Physical Education and enjoy an outstanding performing arts core of Music and Art.
We are a global community of learners at Forest Road. In our efforts to provide a well-rounded education, we depend on our energetic and committed PTA who support school learning with cultural arts programs for our entire student body. I encourage you to not only join this amazing organization but to be an active participant in its monthly meetings and on-going volunteer efforts as they directly and positively impact the lives of our students.
I am honored to be a part of this dynamic school community. We welcome you to share in our joys and our achievements. I look forward to a rewarding and successful year together.
