How to Search for Information on the Internet. This site provides a great tutorial on Keyword Searches. This page allows students to do Keyword Searches using 5 different child safe search engines. The site also has links to tutorials on advanced search strategies.

Very basic tutorial that you and your students can use to learn how to create a database using AppleWorks.

Scrambled Stories  
This site has several familiar stories that children can read, have read to them, and interact with while they practice recognizing different parts of speech. The graphics in the story change with student input and the completed story can be printed out.

Bookpals
This site produced by the Screen Actors Guild presents streaming videos of of books being read to students by famous actors. Each book presented includes a book summary, several age appropriate activities, information about the author, and information about the reader. Teachers can also download a complete lesson plan to use with the book. Political Cartoons 
 
A catalog of Political Cartoons by Dr. Suess: Dr. Seuss Went to War. The Mandeville Special Collections Library at the University of California, San Diego, contains the original drawings and/or newspaper clippings of all of these cartoons. This website makes these cartoons available to all internet users. The cartoons have been scanned from the original newspaper clippings in the UCSD collection. Teachers should preview this extension collection that contains the following subjects: People, Countries/Regions, War/ Domestic Issues and Battles and Battlefields.

Topic Sentences  
This is a good site that provides interactive practice on finding the Topic Sentence and Main Idea in a paragraph. Exercises are prepared in groups of five paragraphs students must write in the topic sentence containing the main idea for each selection. Students then submit their answers for grades. Students can route results information to you. You may pre-set information BEFORE student use or supply students a valid e-mail address for students to send results to.
